Hazaras (Huh-zah-ruhz) Hazaras live in the central mountains of Afghanistan. Hazaras make up 20% of the Afghanistan population. They are Islam and mostly speak Dari as well as Pashtu, Turkic, and Baluchi. The most common clothing is called perahan-u-tunban, which is similar to pajamas. Hazara men wear vests, turbans, and sweaters over the perahan-u-tunban. Hazara women wear bright colors and patterns. Since the women remain outside most of the time, they wear lightweight clothing. They have Asian facial features that make them different from the rest of the races (narrow eyes, flat noses, broad cheeks). Since the Hazaras are so different from the other races and tribes, they face persecution and discrimination. |
